Case Study:

Ortega Tack & Feed Chick Days

Time Period: 2012

  • Local/Rural Community Relations
  • Social Media Management

With the help of VAN LEUVEN Communications, Ortega Tack & Feed’s first Chick Days was a hatching success. Ortega Tack & Feed was not only new to Chick Days, but also new to the community of Capistrano in San Juan, CA.

Since 2010, VLC has been supporting Purina dealers in their local promotion of Chick Days. During this time, VLC helped gain local media coverage for dealers across the U.S in support of the backyard chicken movement.

Ortega Tack & Feed partnered with VLC in March 2012 to receive marketing and promotional assistance for their in-store Chick Days event. Being a new tack and feed store in Capistrano, Ortega Tack & Feed wanted help getting their name out to the community and bringing customers into the store for their very first Chick Days event.

The VAN LEUVEN Communications Team helped Ortega Tack & Feed brainstorm creative activity ideas that would make their Chick Days event more interesting and newsworthy. VLC sent out a press release, e-blast to local media and reached out to print, radio and television outlets. They contacted media outlets to encourage previews, calendar postings and coverage of the event. The Team worked with Ortega Tack & Feed to create editorial content that could be published in local and regional papers. VLC also advised Ortega Tack & Feed on social networking and offered assistance every step of the way.

By the time their Chick Days event rolled around, the VLC Team had gotten several articles and announcements published in the most read local and regional newspapers. They also helped arrange for the most popular regional paper, The Orange County Register, to send a reporter and photographer out to the event.  There was a photo slideshow of the event published afterwards.

Ameila Smith, store manager for Ortega Tack & Feed, was very pleased with the work and results VLC delivered. “We would absolutely use VAN LEUVEN Communications again,” Smith said. “Our account manager was great. She was cheery and helpful, and made working with her a pleasure.”
