Kids Garden Fresh

Time Period: 2007-present

  • event management
  • media relations

Since 2007, VAN LEUVEN Communications has supported Gateway Greening, a non-profit organization in St. Louis, Mo. celebrating community food projects, education and wellness programs and civic greening. Gateway Greening has become the go-to resource and recognized expert within the realm of community greening and urban farming. The Kids Garden Fresh program is a youth gardening program funded by Monsanto. The program funded the instillation of 20 school gardens and the expansion of 20 school gardens already in place. VLC worked on behalf of Monsanto to secure recognition from local media of the $400,000 grant that funded the program. VLC was able to gain TV coverage of the installation of two gardens. VLC coordinated with the Monsanto public relations team in an outreach effort to bring the students involved in the Future Farmers of America organization from rural areas surrounding St. Louis, to give the rural agriculture students a unique look at urban agriculture. VLC also coordinated the Youth Gardens Award Ceremony. Media personality, Kristen Cornett of KMOV’s Go Green segment was strategically chosen by VLC to be the media personality to host the award ceremony.
